Scent work is an absolutely fantastic game to play with your dog! It's a canine sport that mimics the work of bomb detection dogs, medical alert dogs etc. It channels your dog’s natural desire to sniff into a fun, rewarding activity that you can do together as a team. Did you know that just 15-20 minutes of scent work can tire out an energetic dog more than an hour-long physical run? (source: American Kennel Club). But the benefits don't end there: - Research indicates that sniffing can lower a dog's heart rate. It naturally helps hyperactive, anxious, or easily overstimulated dogs decompress and settle down. - Shy or timid dogs gain a massive confidence boost from taking the lead and successfully solving scent puzzles on their own. - In scent work, the dog in the expert and you act as their supportive partner. This shared experience - where you must listen to, trust, and follow your dog's lead - builds a unique bond, mutual respect, and clear communication. Class info: - Classes in July/August will take place in a fully fenced yard. Heavy rain or extreme heat might cause class cancellation on a short notice, students will be notified by email of any changes. - Dogs work one at a time. - When not working, teams will wait in their cars. In most cases handlers are welcome to observe the other dogs working. - Things to bring: leash & flat collar or harness, plenty of fragrant (aka stinky :) ) treats. - Potty your dog before the class starts and in between rounds. Be respectful, don't let them pee on manmade objects. - 48hr cancellation policy applies.
